Driving: Safety and Danger
The passengers hold stiff, with bated breath, as the driver steps on the brake with the ferocity of only those who know what road rage feels like. I close my eyes in a quick prayer to a God I suddenly believed in. The car lurches to a stop, from inches, to a mere fingertip away from the next crash. Meanwhile in the driver’s seat, they pay no attention to the terrifying risks in favor of chewing out those in the back seat. Now, speaking from personal experience, it’s no fun for parents to be mad at you. However, it’s even worse when it’s in the car, because the internal war is reflected on the outside. We made it back home safely, but I feel as if it was an example of irresponsible driving, from my parents no less. Too many sharp and sudden turns, as well as irregular movements from a large vehicle. It was scary, not that they bothered to listen.
From that example above, it would have been so easy to slam on the brakes a little too late and end up in a bad situation. More than anything else, it would have been better to focus completely on the road rather than the situation. I should have been more careful than to cause distractions, so we could be safer on the road. For others and myself, being a good driver means that you follow the rules of the road, be polite, and make good decisions. One of the biggest problems in the twenty-first century is our electronics. The number of deaths by texting and driving has brought up so much awareness, there are many new laws that fine and punish those who do so. In conclusion, don’t use your cell-phone while driving and wear a seatbelt.
Driver’s education is the first step to even becoming a driver! We take it for many reasons, one of the most important being reducing the number of deaths from driving. It educates us in our starter attempts to drive, as well as a universally known crash course. By paying attention and learning the rules of the road, less accidents can happen and therefore, less deaths. Driver’s education is vital because it teaches us possible scenarios and the confidence to deal with those situations.
In today’s society, attempts to make driving as safe as possible have been calculated in every way possible. The only thing left is the driver’s actions. Make good choices, such as driving with good concentration and staying away from the influence of alcohol and drugs. Obvious, but still important regulations are to obey traffic laws and don’t be distracted, whether it’s food, phones, or screaming children, ignore them. Take precautions to make sure you don’t get distracted in the first place. In my opinion, speeding limits are one of the most well-broken laws. It is also the number one cause of fatal accidents in the nation. That being said, don’t speed because as common it is to happen, it can easily lead to death.
