No One Wants That Knock on the Door

Many people believe that being behind the wheel is a right and that it is as simple as just getting into a car and taking off but this is far from the case and in fact driving safely has many aspects that need to be considered. First of these being the helpfulness of a driver’s education course. Drivers education is important in reducing the number of deaths that occur behind the wheel. This is done by allowing a student driver to be able to partially rely on the teacher to take control of the car if need be and in turn the student driver learns how to drive without being thrown behind the wheel on day one without any safeguards in place in order to protect them and those outside of the car. Second, there is more that can be done to reduce the amount of people who are killed in auto accidents. The main way to reduce these numbers is to get people to stop texting and driving and getting them to understand that nothing on that phone is so important that it cannot wait until the car is parked. While there are currently apps that can disable a person from being able to text while the car is in motion those apps have to be turned on by the user in order for them to work and to be honest that is not something that most people are going to do on their own because they feel that texting is too important to just turn off even if it is only temporarily. Third, is when someone is in a wreck it can teach them that they never want that to happen again if possible. I know how scary a wreck can be because I was in one that was my fault only three months after I received my license. I was in my car with friends and was driving way too fast for the road that we were on. I did not make the curve and instead ran off the road and tore up the entire passenger side of my car. Two of us ended up having to go to the hospital but thankfully we were not badly hurt. After the wreck I learned that the destination is not as important as getting there safely. Lastly, people need to realize that it is better to get something late than to get there fast and possibly not get there at all due to a wreck, which could not only harm those in the vehicle but also those that may be in other vehicles or even pedestrians. In conclusion, not all wrecks can be avoided but anything that can be done in order to lower the number of wrecks that occur is one less person that has to go to the hospital or one less family that has to get that knock on the door to tell them that their loved one did not survive an accident.
