Time for the Future
You only get one life. The invention of the automobile gave us the incredible ability to travel faster. It gave us more time to live our lives. However, it also put us a greater risks of fatalities while traveling.
If we as drivers do not educate ourselves and others, the blood is on our hands. What is the use of more time to live if we will not all live to see it. I believe it is essential for each of us to take it upon ourselves to educate somebody. The world has to know how to protect itself. More importantly, we need to know how to protect our neighbors and our children.
The best course of action, I believe, includes mandatory classes for upperclassmen in high school. Most schools currently offer Driver’s Education, but they are very few incentives to take this class over any other course. It would not necessarily have to be an entire semester or year class – I recommend weekly meetings in auditoriums and gyms to present the most important information about safe driving. This solution reaches the most people; majority of teenagers are enrolled at public high schools, and every one of them would benefit. Furthermore, the students are just beginning to drive on their own, and they will be more likely to retain the information, and they will also retain it better given the course is weekly. This prevents information overload.
We have to dedicate a little of our time to safe driving education. If we can save even one person’s future, isn’t it worth it?
