Unsafe Driving

Everyday there are many people that lose their lives because of unsafe driving. I strongly encourage people to go to driving school, as it was a great source of getting practice and learning how to drive. One tip that I was taught at driving school is to know your surroundings. Being able to know where everyone else is on the road gives the driver an advantage. My mom always says to me, “I’m worried about the drivers around you, not your driving.” As a collection, everyone needs to start being more aware of their surroundings, which will lead to less accidents.

As a driver, I have always valued wearing a seatbelt and not texting and driving. Also, I refuse to drive whenever I believe I am too tired. When I was young, I lost an uncle because he was too tired to drive. He fell asleep at the wheel. Thankfully, there was no one else involved. It is very sad to think about how he lost his life just because his ego was too large to realize he needed to get some sleep. Even just a thirty minute nap would have saved his life. A couple steps to reduce the amount of deaths, and even accidents, are spreading awareness about how awful it is to text and drive. From my driving experience, I always see people on their phones while driving, especially the younger group of people. To connect with the younger group, there could be a social media page that sends out constant reminders of not to text and drive. This could be on all social medias, such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Before February 14, 2020, I would not claim myself as a good driver. There were times I would abuse the power of my car and it put other people’s lives at risk. Fortunately, I was taught a great lesson and was pulled over. I was excessively speeding and the very respectful police officer explained to me how immature it was. I would say my two punishments that night were my speeding ticket, and becoming a more mature driver. To be a safer driver, I have been following all the laws and trying to set an example for the people around me. This includes my sister, which is going to be driving within the next year.
