A trip to the fair
Every year about 3 million accidents are reported with injuries. There are nearly 3,000 deaths related to phone use while driving in 2019. As of 2018 there were about 5,000 deaths due to driving under the influence. This is why it is important to emphasize the importance of driver education and safety. We need to reduce cell phone use while driving as well as bringing awareness to driving under the influence. If people really understood how dangerous it is to be distracted behind the wheel, they would be more careful. Especially to say that 1 in 7 people driving don’t even have on seat belts.
A few steps that can help reduce deaths related to driving is simply putting down your phone. That text message can wait until you have stopped at your destination. Also if you decide to do any drinking make sure you have a safe way of getting home whether it is calling a friend, or if you are in a group designate a driver. You should not get behind the wheel if you are extremely tired either. Falling asleep at the wheel is more common than you think. For the easiest one of all, just put on your seat belt.
I remember back when I was in high school and the county fair just opened. A couple of friends came with me and It was a lot of fun. I knew it was packed before I even got to the main entrance because when I turned down the street to get to the parking area I noticed that the lot was filled up, cars were lined up on both sides of the road leading to the main entrance, and lots of people were walking. Then all of a sudden there is a big crashing sound. Once I found a parking spot I asked what had happened and the security guard said some guy hit a parked car trying to text his friend that he was outside to pick him up.
Later that day I got back home after dropping my friends off back at their house and realized I was glad we all rode together. This made it safer for me because they were able to help me practice safe driving since I was able to tell them what to type in on my phone because I had no idea how to get to the fair from my house. When it came to music I just let my passenger play what he wanted since we all had the same music taste. This alleviates me from going on my phone to change a song from my playlist.
Even if I were by myself there are still ways that I could practice safe driving. I could’ve turned my phone on “do not disturb(DND)” prior to driving. Doing this ensures all of my notifications are silenced unless someone calls me that is on a list custom for allowing calls while on “DND” which are only my mom and dad. I also could use the feature on my phone that allows me to speak to a “voice controlled person” and tell them to either skip a song or put in directions to a specific place.
