My view of the value of drivers ed
The importance of drivers ed is substantial in reducing the number of driving related deaths. There are a lot of rules to learn before any driver can get out on the road. The education courses can equip new drivers with the necessary tools to do so. I also feel that the importance is to explain the consequences for what happens if these rules are not followed. Many of the students in drivers ed are young. Being so young, it is common for them to do reckless things. This is important to prevent because reckless driving could cause many accidents and deaths. In driving school, the instructor explains to the students the type of legal charges a person could face as well as the long term effects of an accident. Learning about the consequences could possibly keep them from driving recklessly or disobeying the rules.
To reduce deaths caused by driving, I feel that the responsibility belongs mainly to the driver. I also feel that drivers should limit their distractions in the car when driving. In this current time, people are easily distracted. Texting, calling, and even playing on apps while driving can cause major accidents. I believe that people should put their phones away so it won’t be a distraction. If a person is using their phone as a GPS, it should be propped up instead of on their lap so they can keep their eyes on the road. Also, turning on the “do not disturb” feature should do good as well.
Last month, my family members and I were involved in a car accident. We were traveling on the highway and were hit from behind at a high rate of speed. Fortunately, we all walked away from the accident basically unscathed. However, our care is considered a total loss. If the other driver had been more alert on the highway, this accident could have possibly been prevented.
One step that I can take to be a better and safer driver would be to practice more. Despite already having my license, it does not necessarily mean my driving is perfect. By continuing to practice with my parents or another experienced driver, they may be able to point out areas of where I could improve. I can encourage them to implement good driving habits such as staying off of their phones, and limiting as many distractions as possible.
