Pay Attention…Be Ready
Drivers ed is very important to the community, there are so
many times drivers ed could have saved a life in this world. I
have been involved in an accident that involved my truck being
smashed between a semi-truck and another vehicle due to a driver
error. Nothing is scarier then seeing your life flash before your
eyes in an accident you can see coming but can do nothing to avoid.
Drivers ed can reduce the amount of deaths because often
drivers forget they are not invincible and forget the basic concepts
of driving. In my situation it was the first rain of the winter
season, and the roads were slick from the oils on the road and the
semi-truck hydroplaned, all while the driver was driving to fast.
The more times we feel nothing can bring us down, the more likely our
own actions take us down with them. Drivers ed is vital to help
people understand the rules of the road and how the rules apply to
keep us safe, understanding the signs of the road and how each relate
to the driving situation in that particular location, such as falling
rocks and things of that nature.
The steps that we can take to reduce deaths are honestly quite
simple, be educated, and be aware. Aware of our surroundings and
conditions of the road, and to know when its better to stay at home
due to conditions of the road and avoid needless travel. The next big
step is learning the rules of the location of travel and maintaining
the speed limits of the road, and focus on driving whatever speed is
safe for the location, not necessarily staying at the speed limit, if
the weather calls for slower driving, drive slower.
Thinking of my own driving habits, I can do my part by focusing on
driving more alert. Focus on the road and not let music distract me
or let my passengers distract me from the task at hand. Often times
its easy to get distracted by a good conversation and that is
something I can try to avoid or keep to a minimum to be safer on the
road for myself and those around me.
