Safe Driving is Important
Safe Driving is important
I received my permit as soon as I was eligible. However, in order to get my permit, I just needed knowledge of the road, signs, and laws. I did not need to know how to drive, nor did I need to practice in order to achieve my permit. After receiving a permit, certain things need to be reviewed and understood preferably with an instructor, such as, going over what was learned virtually, as well as the little things taken into account, like staying attentive and not driving sleepy, or not playing the music too loud, and other little distractions that can cause you to be unaware or lose focus on the road. This has the potential of reducing thousands of deaths.
Before getting your license, there should be scenario-based questions that you have to answer that are likely to happen in the real world. For example, you are on I75 and you get a notification text from your mom saying, “get home quickly, there’s an extreme emergency” will you call her? Text her back? Or pull over and read the full text, etc. This could also help people think first, and not rely on instinct, but rely on prior knowledge in which could also save lives.
I know a High School friend who passed due the opposing driver being on their phone. That is probably the biggest safety issue in my area. Many people change music or check their notifications at a red light, or have the music blasting and I am at fault for that. Now, I have learned to tell my friends to get that stuff situated before we hit the road, so we won’t have to worry about it on the road, so we now make a music playlist before traveling and turn the phones over so we won’t have to deal with them on the road.
