The Drivers ed Initiative Award

The drivers ed course is a crucial step in reducing driving related deaths. During the class, students are taught the basic rules of the road, while also gaining knowledge from experienced drivers who provide different tips and pointers to keep drivers and everyone around them safe. There are several steps than can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving including adhering to the speed limit, obeying traffic laws, wearing a seatbelt, and limiting distractions such as texting or talking on your cell phone. While I have never been in a car accident, I have experienced reckless driving. There have been numerous instances during which I’ve noticed individuals doing ill-advised things while driving such as texting or holding lengthy conversations on their cell phone. When I am behind the wheel, there are many things I can do along with many precautions I can take in order to ensure the safety of myself, passengers in my vehicle, pedestrians, and other vehicles on the road. I can ensure security by keeping my eyes glued to the road, paying attention to all signs and directions I come across, being mindful of other drivers, following the speed limit, and keeping my phone out of sight. It is important to never forget what was taught to me in drivers’ education and to remember I’m not only driving for myself, but for everyone else on the road as well.
