Drivers ed 101

Getting a driver’s license showcases one’s capabilities and maturity. As growing teenagers, we utilize this milestone to impress friends and, more importantly, to drive to favorite destinations at our leisure. Often students are not fully cognizant that by attaining quality drivers ed, more lives are delivered out of the hands of reckless, untrained, and unintentionally ignorant drivers.

How will novice drivers be equipped and knowledgeable about safe transportation if initiative is not taken to be instructed through drivers ed? According to the National Safety Council website, an estimated 38,800 people lost their lives due to car accidents in 2019. Proper training enables drivers to recognize their position of authority and their inherent responsibility to make quality well informed decisions when operating a motor vehicle. Drivers can then truly discern that their actions will preserve future memories and aspirations of others instead of causing unfathomable harm. Once this principle is instilled, drivers will refuse to be passive, inattentive bystanders and will actively take the role of influential models of transportation safety.

Like the brilliant blueprints of an architect’s plan to construct a structurally sound building, instructors develop intricate steps necessary to groom safe drivers. Knowledgeable instructors draw from a vast body of training, research, and experience to emphasize that drivers learn to TAP (an acronym I developed from the composite training I received). Drivers must be truthful, alert, and prepared. They must be truthful about the detrimental influence of drugs, distractions, and untimely use of technological devices. Drivers must be alert of their state of mind, road conditions, and safety laws. Drivers must be prepared to effectively respond unexpected road hazards, weather conditions, and actions of other drivers. This preparation includes keeping a spare tire and safety devices in the vehicle. Learning to TAP saves lives.

By personally implementing the afore mentioned practices, I have been fortunate enough to have only experienced near accidents. My parents’ constant reminders to be attentive, follow speed mandates, and be aware of other drivers, continue to guide me and my siblings’ good driving practices. Because of their advice and teachings, I strive to be a conscientious driver.

I can continuously improve myself as a driver by studying and reviewing my state’s drivers ed booklet. Asking for safety tips from other safe drivers and law enforcement officers will also increase my insight. By conducting safe driving education sessions at home with my siblings as well as at school with my classmates, I can assist others improving their driving skills. During these sessions, I will passionately encourage them to become vigilant, thoughtful, and responsible drivers. I will challenge them to inform their friends and family.

I believe that today’s youth are more eager than ever to take a stand for positive change. Obtaining a drivers ed will equip them in their efforts to strive to reduce the rising number of deaths caused by car crashes. Our relentless drive for change and safety will construct the astronomical differences needed in our roads today.
