Drivers ed is essential in reducing the number of deaths that are caused by driving. Drivers ed allows you to be aware of the rules on the road and be informed about the dangers and warnings on the road. Once people know the dangers and the things that may happen on the road they may be able to be more careful and cautious on the road. Signs are always a good reminder of road safety. In New York City there aren’t a lot of steps that are taken to reduce the number or deaths. There isn’t a course in schools for students to take where they are taught road safety at all because here we usually use public transportation. Some steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths is to give students a course and training in school at least one a year in order for them to be fully aware of road safety. This way they are also aware of the dangers that come with driving. Those who want to get a driver’s license in NYC are able to get one but aren’t always aware of what it exactly means. Although they are required to watch certain videos before getting a license, I believe that they should be required to see those videos at least once a year in order to maintain people aware of road safety. In order to reduce the number of deaths related to driving is to have signs on the road big enough for drivers to see that alerts them of being safe while driving and not using their phones. I have been learning to drive better on the road and tell others to always be careful when driving. Another thing I have done, is telling others to stay off their phone when driving and trying to hold them accountable when they do. I have never been in a car accident but I have been in a car with a person driving irresponsibly. The person I was in the car with was driving over the speed limit and was on their phone as well. During that moment I felt very scared and in that moment I knew the importance of drivers ed. Some people fail to realize that being on their phone and going above the speed limit is extremely dangerous to others and to themselves. To be a safer driver, I should take into account that there are people’s lives that I am responsible for.
