Scholarship Driver Safety Essay

Samantha Espinosa

Learning how to drive is a grand privilege that most teenagers can experience throughout their lifetime. Driving itself doesn’t sound so hard, but the real truth behind it will not be learned until they are on the road by themselves. They will be able to learn how to obey the laws, protect pedestrians, and so on. For many years, thousands of people unfortunately lost their lives in avoidable situations. The main ones that are commonly known are drunk driver, driving and texting, and fatal car accidents. Educating students about tragic tragedies and basic laws will alert them into thinking that driving is not a game or right, not everyone is fortunate to obtain a license or a car alone. Reducing the chances of accidents is all up to the driver, there are many slogans, advertisements, and etc. that warn about what can happen on the road. It is up to us as teenagers and humans as a whole time eliminate the chances of someone getting hurt. One thing that can help to relieve the stress of using phones while driving is to build a service tower that can detect the use of a cell phone and automatically be able to stop the car until the device is no longer in use. The idea and development of this sounds complexive, but it is also achievable. Luckily during my time as a child passenger and driver, I never experienced an accident. My father has been in multiple accidents that could have been fatal. All of the accidents occurred in the early morning when it is dark on his way back home and on the highway. Both of them dealt with a young drunk driver in their 20s. As a result, she has been charged with DUI and left my father unable to play in vigorous sports such as soccer or basketball. He had to go through therapy and many doctors in order to get active once again. As of today, he only gained more momentum but not near what he had before the accident. I have seen so many of my friends drive recklessly when they are more than two people in the car. Their thoughts instantly become vulnerable, that is when they start to speed over 30 mph over the limit. It is so disappointing to see that someone is so irresponsible just to show their friends how fast they can drive. Many accidents have occurred because of these actions. Not everyone is going to agree, at the end of the day, it is up to the person if they want to listen and to protect others while driving. I would advise everyone that driving is a privilege and that it can be taken away easily due to inappropriate actions. There are many accidents and tragedies that happen each day, it can be avoided if you apply your knowledge to the road so that you can get home safe to people who love and care for your well being.
