February
4th, 2020 the city of Moore was changed forever. Even though this is
a town known for tornadoes, a tragedy occured that happens in a lot
of towns; a drunk driver crash. Sadly, this crash didn’t only
affect the driver responsible, it also placed others at risk. On this
day, three of Moore High school’s runners were out for a run when
they were struck by a drunk driver, killing three and injuring many
more. This one driver being irresponsible behind the wheel changed
these college bound students, their families, and their friends
lives. I didn’t only lose a teammate that day, I also lost a
friend. Drivers ed is important in reducing the amount of
disasters like these because it shows you the amount of
responsibility being on the road is. Steps that can be taken to
reduce the amount of these occurrences are showing kids in drivers
education real events that have happened to show them it can happen
to anyone. Steps I can take to be a better driver are to always
remember I am not the only person on the road, look at my
surroundings at all times, and make sure I always remember the people
I love. Yuridia, Rachael, and Kolby wouldn’t want anything more.
Even though I only knew one of these victims, the whole community
mourned together all across Oklahoma.
