Drivers Safety.

Drivers ed is important to stopping the number of deaths on the road because it educates people on the laws of the road and how to drive safely. This seems obvious enough. What isn’t obvious enough is how, even with Drivers Ed, we are supposed to reduce the number of deaths that are still related to driving. There are a couple of steps that can be taken, such as reducing the number of dangerous stops or turns there are in high traffic areas, being harsher at enforcing speed limits, and my personal favorite, expanding the public transportation available to people. It is ecofriendly, reduces the number of cars on the road, and reduces the risk of accidents. It also provides for people who are not comfortable with driving, like me. I have seen numerous friends and family friends driving irresponsibly. I’ve even seen my own sisters do it. While I myself have never been in a car accident, I have seen the damage that one can do, and it scares me to death. Seeing the amount of selfishness in drivers on the road is appalling, they think that nothing bad can happen to them. That they can break the rules because they think they are safe drivers, when they obviously are not. I see this in my oldest sister, in a friend’s mother, and in countless other acquaintances I know. They put other peoples lives at risk, and their own, because they think they are invincible. These experiences change the way I think about the road, cars, and driving in general. In the end I have made the decision to not drive at all. That makes it a little hard to take steps to improve my driving, but I can take steps to try and remind people I know about how they aren’t the only people on the road. I can remind them that I am in the passenger seat, and they are responsible for my life too. Reminding them they aren’t invincible and need to obey the road signs, stop lights, and speed limit. In driving, a little bit of empathy can go a long way.
