Reckless Driving Practices
My freshman year of high school I experienced my first real car accident and it changed my life drastically. It was a little after midnight, my family and I were only a couple of miles from home. We were stopped at a light when a drunk driver hit us and totaled our car. I was petrified. If only my brother came with us, I would have been in that back seat and I would have gotten crushed. Since that night, I have been a huge advocate for safe driving.
Occasionally when I am riding in a car, I glance over and almost ninety percent of the time, I see the driver on their phone. It infuriates me, because in those few seconds of being on the phone, anything could happen. It is beyond selfish to put so many people’s lives in danger, just to look at something that will still be there when you arrive at your destination. On top of that, so many drivers and passengers in motor vehicles do not use seatbelts. Seatbelts were designed in the intention to keep everyone in vehicles safe. However, when seatbelts are not being used, lives are being put into danger.
On average about ninety people die every day due to unsafe driving. Drivers under the influence, driving while distracted and any other unsafe practices is beyond selfish. It is putting so many innocent lives at stake and overall, it is not fair. This must stop. When a person is evidently under the influence gets behind the wheel, it is best for someone to stop them and find them a safer means of transportation.
As a society we need to drastically reduce the number of accidents. We need to be weary of unsafe drivers for their safety and the safety of others. We need to avoid things that will distract us while we drive. Educating ourselves on the importance of safe driving is essential. This will benefit everyone in the long run and keep many our loved ones safe.
