Driving Courses Are More Than an Education

Drivers ed is extremely helpful to reducing deaths because most people don’t know what it means to be a defensive driver and fail to realize that their lack of awareness can injure many lives. With a proper drivers ed, someone can understand the dangers of driving but also know how to not get involved in these dangers. One way to reduce the number of deaths related to driving would be studying a driver’s course. For example, recently my father took the New York Defensive Driving Course. He made me join him while he was taking the course because his English isn’t the best, but I gained extensive knowledge about defensive driving and how it plays a significant role in a driver’s life while helping him. By taking such a course, you’re informed on many topics that are not commonly discussed such as why intoxication before driving is life-threatening, how aggressive driving’s and road rage’s impulsiveness can harm more than one vehicle on the road, why seat-belts are crucial for everyone, how daily maintenance of your vehicle can practically save your life, etc. These driving courses teach so much and the information isn’t difficult to understand, so any type of driver can apply this knowledge on the road. If more people took such courses, then I strongly believe the number of deaths related to driving would decrease instantly. Thankfully, I haven’t been in a car accident yet but a friend of mine did have the unfortunate luck of experiencing a terrible incident in her vehicle. She was going on a trip with some family friends and they took two cars. She was in the car with her uncle and then suddenly the other car they were with started to speed up and her uncle’s car wasn’t in the best condition but he started to speed up as well, but sadly he couldn’t slow down causing them to flip over and crash onto the grass. Luckily, everyone was in good condition but the vehicle was demolished. There were five lives in that car, including a two-year-old baby, and all of them were endangered because of the irresponsible driving my friend’s uncle did. Such a collision wouldn’t have happened if he was cautious and just drove normally. If he had taken a driving course and used what he learned, the chances of them being in such a situation would’ve been extremely low. Some steps you can take to be a safer driver are taking such driving courses and if you don’t have the opportunity to do so, my best advice would be driving with caution. Be aware of your surroundings, make use of the mirrors, keep your distance, and if one driver is doing something irresponsible, then don’t follow their methods and just drive at the legal and safe pace.
