The importance of drivers ed is that when people have the knowledge to properly drive around the risk of people to crash and potentially perish decrease immensely. Therefore every person who wishes to drive must be sure to understand everything that involves driving and driving based deaths.
The steps that can be taken to reduce the number of driving based deaths is to be predictable, never look away from the road, always avoid distractions, and drive when you are well rested. You must also try to predict what the other drivers near you may try to do at all times, if given the option try to not travel when there is a storm considering the fact that your car could hydroplane which would then lead you to crashing.
In terms of having been in a car accident or experienced a family member driving negligibly I regret to say that I have witnessed both. When I was around the age of six to eight my mother was driving exhausted during a nasty snowstorm and she took a sharp turn down a icy road and crashed into another vehicle which ended up with her badly damaging the car.
The steps that can be taken to improve my driving and others would be to always pay attention to the speed limit, control road rage, plan trips ahead of time, watch the weather, and try to maintain control if your tires blow out.
