Driving Safely
I’m sitting in class and my phone is going crazy. What could possibly be going on. I raise my hand and ask to step out of the room. I answer it and my mom says your sister has been in a car accident and I can’t talk long but I am on my way to the hospital. Panic sets in but my mom says I believe she is okay, you can come after school. The rest of the day is a blur and I arrive at the hospital to see my mom pull glass out of my sister’s hair. She is alive and is okay. Broken ribs and arm with cuts all over but she is okay. I have received this call two more times in my life with my brother and my mother. I am extremely lucky that they both made it out alive as well. I have even been in a car accident and made it out with nothing. Driving is a huge cause of death in our world today. One thing that could help reduce the numbers would be drivers ed. Going and just taking a driving test does not teach how to drive. Not only that but they do not tell you what to do, they either pass or fail you. Making everyone go through a driving course could help people understand more what certain signs mean or what you should or should not do. Everyone needs to go through a driving course and be fully educated about driving and actually practice with someone in the car. It should be a required class in high school so that way we can make sure we get as many people as possible. I notice a lot of people driving irresponsibly in my life and yet I am so lucky everyone is still here today. I feel that I need to pay more attention to what is going on around me. Make sure that nothing is distracting me and nothing is more important than me focusing on the road. When in the car with friends and family I need to remind them to focus on the road. I need to become a role model that others can follow.
