For the Future Drivers
For the Future Drivers
Drivers ed is often overlooked and taken for granted by many incoming drivers. During the drivers ed course, students are taught about distractions a driver may encounter, the different signs on the road, what to do in emergency situations, and more useful information. Without this information, many incoming drivers would not know how to react in certain driving situations. Additionally, drivers ed includes a couple of hours of driving behind the wheel which is important because it helps evaluate the progress of the driver and what can be improved. It is hard to imagine a world without drivers ed, but out of the personal experience, I will put it into perspective. In Egypt, there is not a class dedicated to teaching individuals how to drive or a set age limit for driving. For example, you have to be 15 years of age in order to take your permit in America. In Egypt, however, children can start learning how to drive years before their license test. Most drivers do not follow basic rules as we do here in the United States. With my first-hand experience of being in a vehicle in Egypt, I can confirm that the fluidity in the rules of driving puts the individuals of Egypt at risk. Drivers ed does impact future drivers and every step incorporated is important in creating future safe drivers. Learning rules, signs, and other useful information may seem boring, but that information can prevent many misunderstandings on the road. Highlighting distractions on the road may also prevent future distracted drivers which will reduce the number of accidents that may lead to death. Accidents happen more often than drivers think and most people do not realize the impact of an accident on a person. About a year ago, I got rear-ended by a distracted driver and I was in the backseat so I felt the impact more than anyone else in the car. Although the accident was not that bad I came out of it with emotional trauma. I was personally afraid to start driving because I feared getting rear-ended again. I slowly got through it, but if there were fewer distracted drivers on the road, it would prevent future accidents. To become a safer driver, I began to put all distractions away and focus on the road. Calling people out for being distracted drivers can save lives so I personally encourage people to put the distractions away. The best way to make a change on the road is to see the aftermath of distraction through videos and inform future drivers on what to do to prevent accidents on the road. I believe drivers ed does a good job of covering everything but emphasizing it more throughout the course and even behind the wheel can help create our future safe drivers.
