A Safe Driver
The ability to drive and having the freedom to go wherever you like and whenever you like without bothering your parents is one of the greatest highlights when everyone turns 16. However, it comes with a great responsibility and as my aceable instructor always says, it is a privilege. I believe that there is an inverse relationship when it comes to drivers ed and the number of deaths. The more knowledge you have, the less death there will be on the road. Drivers ed plays a huge role in learning the proper etiquette of the road and what you can do in any situation so that you won’t be hurt, and prevent future accidents. They teach us the meaning of what we will come across on the roads, the skills you will need to properly maneuver a vehicle, and the language on the road.
Accidents happen but we can try our best to avoid them. Before we start driving, always check if everything is working properly and is doing what it is intended to do. Always be cautious when driving and be patient no matter what the situation might be. It will only make things worse if you rush. Some steps we can take to reduce the number of deaths is to put away our phones when we are driving, put on music or a podcast so that you won’t be bored. Next, always look around. Look around and know what is happening in your surroundings because you can avoid a lot of things if you’re 100 % focus. Another step you as an individual can take is to make sure you have a lot of rest before driving so that you are able to be focused, which is very important as stated before. Finally, drive within the speed limit so that if there is a sudden change, it won’t affect you as much and can easily move to the next lane.
I have never experienced a car accident before and never want to in the future, mainly because my dad is a cautious driver. However, we were very close to being in one that one day because the other driver ran a red light. But because my dad was focused on the road and looked around first, we quickly stopped on time before anything happened.
Some steps you can take to be a safer driver is to check if you need a new prescription on your glasses so that you are able to see further without any problems. Make sure that you don’t have anything that can distract you on the road because the main thing you should be doing is to look around and stay alert. Know what each sign and warning mean on the road and in your car so that everything can be up to date. Finally, always go to yearly car checkup so that you can fix anything that is malfunction or prevent anything from being malfunctioning.
