The importance of Drivers ed

The importance of drivers ed is important in helping to reduce the number deaths as a result of driving, because it allows you to see the damage done when you are distracted when driving. When I got my license, I was 18 and did not have to take drivers ed, I only had to take a drug and alcohol class. I wish I was able to take drivers ed; however, my parents couldn’t afford it.

There are many steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving, one of the big ones is not texting and driving. You may thank you are only taking your eyes off the road for a second, however, it is more since you have to read the text then respond. Another way is to make sure you are keeping enough distance between you and the vehicle in front of you, when you are less than 2 seconds behind the vehicle if they hit there breaks when you are not looking you don’t have much time to hit your breaks which can cause you to hit the vehicle in front of you or the vehicle behind you to hit you. It is very important to be a conscious driver you have to be able to pay attention to everything going on around you. You never know when someone plans to cut in front of you or try to merge while you are in their blind spot.

I have been in two accidents one in 2000 when I was driving home from work and I can’t remember everything since I blacked out after the crash. I think I might have went to grab something in the passenger seat and when I looked in front of me there was a road barrel in the lane and an 18-wheeler to the right of me so I swerved to the median and that is all I remember till I came to and was told that by some miracle I was able to turn the wheel back to the right or I could have landed on the other side of the freeway. Another accident happened in 2003 when I was getting off the freeway and getting ready to merge on the main road. I was looking at the on coming cars and didn’t notice that the car in front of me stopped. I felt that there was plenty of room for the both of us to merge, they did not.

Being a good example is a great way to teach others to be good drivers. I have a daughter getting ready for her driving test and she is learning a lot and it helps to know she is watching me so I do my best to follow the rules. We are also planning on here taking a driving safety course to help establish more safety tips and help her feel more comfortable in the divers’ seat. We also taught to look not at only the vehicle in front of her, but also at least 2-3 vehicles more ahead since if you notice them starting to stop that will give you more notice if the vehicle in front of you decided to put on the breaks.
