Reduced Deaths With Driving?

Reduced Deaths with Driving?

Is it possible to reduce the deaths caused by driving, while some might suggest to stop driving entirely; that is not a solution. The title begs the question is it possible, of course it is; it can be done in several ways. Driving and texting, eating, talking on the phone, and even kids can be distracting from the road; anything and almost everything can distract us for any amount of time but a moment is all it takes. Removing as many distractions as possible is an option for some, for others it isn’t possible but those distractions can be minimized.

Texting while driving is the most notorious killer on the road, most people realize it but think “I won’t cause an accident because I pay attention, right?” Wrong, anyone and everyone behind the wheel is capable of getting in an accident because of a choice that they made. People say that they can multitask and therefore they can drive and use their phone at the same time. Multitasking is a myth, we can only truly focus on one thing at a time; one thing that we do is going to receive less attention than the other. Texting or talking on the phone we are focused on what we are saying while we pay attention to the road and that won’t stop an accident, focusing and reacting stops an accident. Focusing versus paying attention can apply to anything that we do while we drive, when we choose to focus on the road rather than the thing that is calling for our attention we take a step towards keeping the roads safer.

Kids can be a serious distraction on the road, there are ways to keep them entertained however; you can make it a game and they are instantly distracted. Or give them your phone and you eliminate two distractions in one, you don’t have the phone and your kid is undistracting because their focus is occupied. Food is distracting mostly because it smells so good, most Americans cannot say no to food especially fast food; this is harder to resist but the simple solution is to just wait. I know that’s hard and like saying that a human can fly without help, but it is possible to resist eating food while driving. If you really cannot wait then eat before you leave, fixing some distractions we don’t realize is common sense.

At the end of the road it’s not too hard to eliminate distractions while driving, some can be fixed easily and others require self-control. We can easily lose focus while driving because of anything, what’s important is to try and eliminate as many distractions as you can before you get on the road and it really matters. Choosing to eliminate those distractions before limits the seemingly endless ways that you can be distracted on the road, your next trip out could be yours, or someone else’s last time out.
