The Value of Drivers ed
Drivers ed is something that needs to be taken seriously. Car accidents occur everyday. These accidents can occur due to the lack of drivers ed. Often younger drivers lack experience and therefore the education that comes along with experience. These younger drivers are prone to more accidents because of this, but car accidents can happen to anyone at any time. Spending extra time reviewing a driver’s manual is very beneficial. People can forget the laws and just basic driving rules over time. This basic knowledge will reduce the number of deaths and injuries resulting from driving. Steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving.
The biggest step in reducing the number of deaths is simply obeying traffic laws. In order to obey the laws, people must be aware of these laws. Therefore, people that are getting their license or that already have obtained it, should be reminding themselves of traffic laws and studying any forgotten material in a driver’s manual. People should also be aware of the actions of others, which leads into the next step. Drivers should anticipate the actions of others and recognize whether the people driving around them are following traffic laws. For the last step, drivers should make sure the vehicle that they are operating is safe and reliable. Knowing and understanding the car that you may be driving is very beneficial and is a part of drivers ed.
Personally I have experienced a family member driving irresponsibly. My family member knew that his car was not safe to operate. He continued to drive his vehicle under the circumstances and almost got into an accident. Not understanding his car and the effects that could occur due to his irresponsibility could have injured not only himself, but the others around him. It is very dangerous to not understand your vehicle and if it is safe to drive or even driving when you know that your vehicle should not be operated until it is fixed and is operating efficiently. This situation has helped me learn from his mistakes.
By following the steps I listed above and educating myself on drivers ed, it will help me become a better driver. Using what I know, I am able to teach the people around me about safe driving. Some people are unable to afford the classes that are needed to get a driver’s license and will wait until they are eighteen so they are able to get their license without having to pay for the classes. These people lack the knowledge they need to become a better driver because they simply could not afford it. I think it would be a great opportunity if these kids were able to receive cheaper classes or there was a free course available. I understand personally what it is like to not be able to afford these classes and learning on your own can be much harder. More options for these kids will also help people become safer drivers.
