Importance of Maintaining Safe Driving Skills

Abundant research has demonstrated that approximately 13,000 people die in car accidents due to irresponsible driving. It is imperative as a society to enforce education on safe driving to point out the factors that lead to these numbers of car accidents. There are several online courses offered by car insurance agencies that serve safe procedures any driver can take to maintain safe driving. In return the driver is rewarded for their actions in terms of insurance monthly cost and reduces car accidents from happening. I am fortunate to be alive with my sister and my father as we experienced the irresponsible actions of a man behind the wheel, who was also behind the phone. Everything went so slow yet very fast as I took my mind in a place where questions riddled my mind. “Could we have done something different?” was the number one question I had when it all happened. The person who hit our car was a young man in high school, I remember my father going up to him after the crash and telling him to get educated rather than lashing out on him. I didn’t understand his response at first but as time went on I realized that we were not so different after all. I was fourteen, he was eighteen and we were both scared. We didn’t know his life story and neither did he know ours. In my father’s mind, just how he could have lost his children that day, another parent could have lost his son. The best thing he could say to him was to get educated so maybe next time he can do something different to not endanger his life and the lives of others. I plan to follow my father’s point of view whenever I find myself in a situation where I know I can save someone by giving advice on what to do before making a mistake. Encouraging others to take these online courses to avoid accidents like the ones thousands go through is something everyone has to do. It is no secret that humans tend to do anything for a reward, therefore these online courses serve as a great technique to get drivers to learn something about safety on the road as long as there is a reward behind completing it.
