Importance of Drivers ed in Preventing Deaths Related to Driving

Drivers ed can reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving because it teaches the student driver how to properly handle the vehicle. When in drivers ed students are taught how to properly stop the car from a safe distance, how far the car should be from the car ahead, how to follow speed limits, and using blinkers when changing lanes or turning. Students that go through drivers ed are told how they should react in multiple situations, which will help the student reduce the amount of accidents they will be in throughout their lifetime.

Deaths related to driving could be prevented by teaching drivers how to follow the speed limit and the importance of it, maintaining an appropriate following distance, and avoiding imparied driving. Many drivers do not follow the speed limit when driving and go either to slow or too fast which leads to collisions. Many people when driving like to be right behind the vehicle in front of them, which can cause an accident if the vehicle in front has to slow down as it would not give the following driver enough room to properly slow down. When driving a vehicle, people should also be aware of the risks of driving while under the influence, or when not rested well enough. There are many deaths as a result of impaired drivers, so teaching people when to recognize the signs that them or someone they know is too impaired to drive could greatly reduce the number of deaths related to driving.

I have been in a car accident that luckily no one was injured in. A driver was going to miss a freeway exit and decided to go over lanes at the last second and sideswiped me and then fled the scene. After my accident, even though I knew that it was not caused by me, made me very careful when driving and to be more aware of my surroundings. I believe that if I had been more aware of my surroundings that I could have either slowed down or sped up and avoided that driver to where an accident could not have been caused.

One of the steps that can be taken to keep a driver safe is to keep up with the car maintenance. When drivers keep up with the maintenance on their cars, they are less likely to have the vehicle breakdown when driving, which would prevent an accident. The most important step that can be taken to make sure everyone is being safe on the road, is to minimize all distractions. Distractions can be minimized by putting the phone away and not looking at it when driving, not eating or drinking while the car is in motion, and not trying to change the music or radio station when driving. When someone is behind the wheel, they need to have their complete attention on the road.
