How Can we Become Safe Drivers?

Drivers ed is important to new drivers because it explains the dangers of driving irresponsibly and the measures that everyone can take to make sure that people are driving safely. It goes through the different kinds of irresponsible driving, such as driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and driving while feeling extremely tired, upset, or angry. Because drivers ed emphasizes the dangers of these actions, more people will be aware of these dangers and therefore take more caution while on the road. Some steps we can take toward being more cautious on the road is making sure there is no alcohol, drugs, or medication in our system before getting behind the wheel, as well as making sure we are well-rested and feel no emotions of anger or even sadness because they can affect the way we drive significantly and may lead to an accident. Taking these steps of course can and will lead to fewer vehicle accidents and thus decrease the number of deaths related to driving.

I speak from knowledge I have learned from drivers ed, but I also speak from personal experience. I knew that driving angry or upset is as bad as driving drunk because your emotions affect the thinking process significantly. I did not listen to that at the time, however, and I learned the hard way that that was true. I was incredibly upset when I started driving, so I sped without realizing it and my vehicle lost control. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, but my vehicle was damaged beyond repair and I did have some scratches. Now, whenever I’m upset, I give myself some time to calm down before I drive, or I don’t drive at all. Although the situation will not be the same for everyone, it’s best for everyone to make sure they are okay to drive before getting behind the wheel so that situations like this can be avoided and there are fewer people getting hurt or dying from driving related incidents.
