Drive Smarter, Last Longer
Drivers ed is an extremely important part in the safety of our roadways. The more information people have on how to drive safely the better. Granted, knowing what to do isn’t necessarily going to make people do it. The best way to get people to do something is to give them an incentive for doing it. One thing that most people have in common is that they aspire to make money as easy as possible. So if the state could provide a “Safe Driving Bonus” every six months that a state remains accident free, I believe we would see a massive decrease in driving related deaths. The details would have to be worked out by government officials, but if this could be put into effect, I think it could work. I’ve never been in an accident myself, but I have seen my friends driving irresponsibly. One of my friends was doing about 45mph down a busy street while texting on her phone. Luckily for the both of us, when I told her that it was making me uncomfortable she stopped, but I’m pretty sure she still does it. The step I can take to be a better driver is to take less risk while driving. What I mean by taking less risk while driving is taking a lot of unprotected left turns while the car in the other lane is speeding down the street. I find myself doing this a lot, but most times I know that I can make the turn so I do it.
