Knowledge can Save a Life
Drivers ed Initiative Award Scholarship
As a student who has had their driver’s license for a little over a year now, I remember all too well the process of drivers ed. Although most teenagers find it pointless, the information really can be and has been proven to save lives. A lot of people say, “you are driving a missile,” which makes sense since cars can destroy if not driven properly. And that is what drivers ed is all about, how to drive properly and safely. By going through the drivers ed course with the intention of learning, one can gain a lot from what is taught, and all of it is proven helpful. The more that people are serious about driving safely, the less careless they are and therefore, unnecessary accidents are prevented. It is much better for one to go into driving prepared and confident instead of hesitant and reckless, because that can cost a life. Nothing is worth more than one’s life. I have seen too many instances where people are consumed with reading text messages, rushing from one place to another, drinking, driving tiredly, and even just driving lazily, and the consequences of that have been catastrophic, only causing grief and regret. I have a family member that has gotten into many motorcycle accidents; some were his fault, and some were not. However, he still suffered some horrible injuries and has had to pay a lot of money to repair the damages. None of that would have occurred if he or the other person had been more careful or just payed attention in the first place. I always encourage others to be smart when behind the wheel. It is important to be an example to others on how safety is very important when driving, and one can only drive safely when knowledgeable about how to drive correctly. Drivers ed helped a lot in preparing me for being on the road, and I can only hope and be an example to others so they see the importance of the course and take the course intently, therefore possibly saving lives in the future.
