A NIght that Changed My Life

Officer 2

A Night that Changed My Life

On December 26 2013, I was in a car accident that changed my life. The accident was caused by another driver. He did not yield properly while trying to make a left-turn. Therefore, his car smashed into my driver’s side, causing my vehicle to go down a steep ditch and headed towards an apartment complex. Thankfully, I was able to stop the vehicle before it reached the building. Both vehicles were totaled that night.

As my vehicle was going down the ditch, my left dominant arm slammed into the car door. I was rushed to the Emergency Room. I was in a great deal of pain from the accident. As I was being discharged, I could barely sign my name. It was a long recovery road. I worked in the food industry as a server, and because my arm immensely hurt while I was trying to do my job, I could no longer serve. I had to switch job roles, and even then, I was limited as to what I could do. I could barely hold cups, lift things such as groceries, heavy plates or etc. After working a shift, I would leave in tears because the pain was hard to handle.

After a year and a half, of` many painful tests, a lot of medications, steroids, wore many different braces, and occupational therapy. I was diagnosed with radial tunnel, and needed surgery. During the surgery, the doctor discovered that there were bans and a tendon that crushing the radial nerve. My arm was in a cast for six weeks, and could not work for almost two months.

As of a result, my arm has ten to fifteen percent permanent damage. I will never be able to serve again. The injury from the car accident still affects my way of living today, and my arm has not been the same since. Also, dealing with his insurance company, it took years and was a hassle to settle. The emotional and physical pain, money loss, job change, permanent damage, and much more all could have been completely avoided if the other driver had taken his time while being cautious in the driver’s seat. Driving is a responsibility that should not only be taken seriously, but is crucial for the safety of everyone on the road.
