Let’s Be Aware
In The Driver’s Seat
I do not remember when was the last day in which I haven’t heard about any car accidents. Car accidents became so common that our mind began to perceive it as normal. But it is not. And we are the only ones that can change sad reality around us.
Drivers ed is very important in reducing the number of deaths on the road. Through my friends’ experience with driving school, I believe there is lack of proper drivers ed in the United States. I am a driver as well. However, I obtained my license in another country. Driving school in my country consists of one month of classes about rules on the road. To pass it was necessary to get at least a 90. After the test, we had another month of first aid classes and examination afterwards to see if we are able to help others if there is an accident on the road. And now finally we get to the road. Final part of driving school is actual driving. It is necessary to fulfill 38 hours of driving before applying for the test. Driving school is approximately 6 months and everyone when they hear it are shocked. But the point is, I learned a lot of information during these 6 months. Maybe United States needs better drivers ed system to prevent all these accidents happening every single day. New generations feel too comfortable driving and think they can avoid accidents. But accident can happen to anyone. Last year, my cousin was coming home from work. He was never irresponsible driver and was always careful not to drive when drinking. However, another factor played a huge part in his accident. He was tired. Tiredness led to lack of attention on the road and he didn’t notice a car in front of him slowing down. Thankfully, everything was fine, but it was a good lesson for everyone.
Car accidents are one of the most common deaths in the world. Old and new drivers have to be reminded to be careful every day. There is always more to driving than just moving along the road. It is important to be aware of the surroundings for yourself and others. I believe talking to other drivers and sharing experience of the roads is crucial to become better and safer driver. Not only we can educate each other, but also advise each other. All drivers have to start with themselves. Each one of us is an individual that can help in reducing deaths related to car accidents. I have to become more aware and more careful to help life on the road.
