Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility

The world is a dark and possessed landfill, filled with an infinite amount of dangers that come creeping at our door each day. In the midst of it all, we seem calm and collect as we try to educate our loved ones and the little ones about the dangers that we should avoid. Most if not all dangerous encounters are completely and one-hundred percent avoidable, but some have become so transparent to our naked eyes that they reoccur too often. This haunting repetitive ghost is reckless driving, and its target is everyone.

I started driving when I was 14 years old, a time where many of my peers as well were just starting to learn how to drive and were excited to experience what it was like to be behind the wheel. Any consequences that come to driving, seemed oblivious and escaped many of our young impressionable minds. My only wish is that more people would have emphasized for me and my peers the importance of safe driving.

It is known that death by driving is a leading cause of death in the United States, and is even more deadly than cancer. The only thought that traces my mind is how can this yearly massacre be prevented. The only solution is to educate your loved ones. It can not be stressed enough the amount of crucial information that drivers ed can provide one with. This will help people learn how to operate a car and how to recognize how to drive and merge on to city traffic to highway traffic. As much as I hate sitting in a classroom as anyone else, parents need to sign their kids up for drivers ed. This is a big stepping stone that will help shape the impressionable minds of our youth about how to drive safely, and the very real consequences that can happen to people and you personally on the road. There have been many close calls for me and people that I know with driving, but I can say that with the drivers’ education guidance saved me multiple times.

My message is this: be safe when you are driving. It is of utmost importance. Do not be the one to cause a mother to answer the phone and hear that her child has passed from this world into the next. Don’t be the one to make a husband and father grieve over the death of his family over your reckless driving. If you see your friends or family on the phone stop them. You have the power to confront and prevent death, and it is your responsibility to do so and educate them on how to be better drivers for the sake of us all. We all have the right to live, be responsible and do not take that away.
