How one mistake can change a life

Drivers ed is simply
essential in helping to lower the amount of not only deaths, but
accidents as a whole when driving. If even one person does not take
drivers ed, they will not know the rules of the road, and this
will have a high probability of getting into an accident of some
proportion, possibly causing a fatality. However, I also think that
people should have to re-take their drivers ed test every
few years, to ensure they are still following the rules consciously,
as I think that wears off with drivers over time. This was no more
evident than in February of 2018, when I was involved in a two-car
accident as a passenger. In this accident, me and my father were run
off the road by a driver making an unsafe and irresponsible pass that
may have been prevented if the person had more recent education
training. This accident greatly changed my life, as it caused my
shoulder to tear, effectively ending my baseball career, and greatly
hampering my football career, causing me to most likely miss out on
some college scholarship opportunities that would have awaited me had
I been healthy. The road to recovery was a long one, so it cannot be
stated enough that being safe while driving is a must, because even
if a fatality does not occur, it can change someone’s life forever.
I now have fears when driving, or especially when I am in the
passenger seat due to the accident. In addition, I have had countless
nightmares about what could have happened, as I saw that tree get
closer and closer as we were sped off the road. Overall, I think some
steps that I myself can take to make the roads a safer place are to
remember all rules of drivers ed, and to remind myself that
there is no destination that is so important to get to on time, that
it is worth dying, or killing someone for.
