Knowledge, Focus, and Self-Accountability

The opportunity to drive is a privilege that most people overlook. Based on statistics, it is undeniably an extremely dangerous activity that is not to be overlooked. Luckily, there are ways to help make the roads a safer place. Drivers ed helps spread awareness on the dangers of driving, but also equips people with the knowledge needed to reduce the risk of driving. As someone who acquired their license before I was 18, consequently attended driving school, I was informed about many things that could, and have, gone wrong whilst driving. Then, I was given vital information on why such things occurred and how I can work to prevent such things. Drivers ed is one of the few ways to help prevent deaths as a result of driving. The more drivers that are properly informed before getting on the road increases the safety of said driver and the drivers around them. Strict laws and constant education on the dangers of driving could help reduce the number of deaths related to driving. Not only can establishments such as schools help, but individuals can educate others daily and help make the roads a safer place. Raising awareness and sharing personal knowledge greatly increases the safety of everyone on the road. The importance of staying focused while driving also needs to be stressed when educating others. I have seen others drive irresponsibly and in most cases the drivers were not focused on their driving as much as they should be. Distractions are a serious danger to driving that most people overlook. I and many others should work to get rid of any distractions around us while driving to ensure our focus on the road. We should also educate ourselves individually constantly so that we are always primed for driving. We can easily take it upon ourselves and research safe driving on our own and constantly make sure we are as prepared as possible. Overall knowledge, focus, and self accountability are some of the defining ways to promote safe driving.
