Stay Safe, Stay Alert
According to the CDC, the leading cause of death amongst teenagers is car accidents. If drivers ed were to be implemented at a young age, it would allow young drivers, who are becoming young adults, to be equipped with the proper and necessary knowledge to become safe and defensive drivers. If young adults were to acquire this knowledge and practice this on a daily basis, it would eventually be instilled in their everyday lives as they continue to mature. To help reduce the number of deaths related to driving is to hold ourselves accountable, as well as those who are driving, and our school systems. It must be recognized that when drivers are first learning how to drive, they should be taught by the peers around them, their instructors, and especially parents and the school system.
Personally, I’ve experienced reckless driving behavior, as a passenger, and have been in a couple of accidents. Mainly family members would have reckless driving behavior, such as texting and driving or letting road rage get to them because many people believe that because they’ve been driving longer that they can’t be irresponsible drivers. While when my friends drive they’re more careful since it would be a group of us. I’ve only been in two accidents: the first accident I remember being in was when I was around 7 years old and a woman rammed into the back of our car. The irony was that she was on her way to visit her husband who was on his way to the hospital because he was in a car accident as well. The second accident was about a year and a half ago when my dad and I were driving and we’re completely stopped at a stop light when someone smashes into the back of the car. The other driver was driving a jeep that had a metal bar around the bumper of the car and it completely caved the trunk of our car in. The other driver claimed he was reaching for something and didn’t notice he didn’t press on the brakes. Luckily, my dad and I were okay and there were no injuries.
However, through the experiences of these accidents and careless actions, it can be learned from. To ensure that I can be a safer driver, I will constantly ensure that I am abiding by driving laws. On the other hand, to make certain that others are becoming safer on the roads I would hold them accountable in the event that they are thoughtless while driving. Driving is very unpredictable and no one knows what can happen in a split second, which is why drivers need to be taught how to become safe drivers from a young age.
