Driving is a privilage, Don’t make it a curse!

In America, 40% of driving deaths are caused by alcohol, 30% by speeding, and 33% caused by reckless driving. Participating in drivers ed courses are essential for all drivers to help reduce injuries and deaths caused by car accidents. Drivers ed lays out all the facts and safety rules that are needed to protect your life while on the road. As a society, we must come together to ensure that no more lives are taken due to distracted driving and use our knowledge to protect all citizens on the road.

To reduce the number of deaths caused by car accidents, we must first examine ourselves before we start a vehicle. Recognize if you are mentally stable to drive meaning have you been drinking, are you tired, and will you give driving your 100% attention while on the road. Taking these precautions can protect your life and other drivers. Another way to reduce the number of deaths is to follow the rules of the road. For example, always read road signs and obey the speed limit in all areas, also always put on a seatbelt before starting your journey since wearing a seatbelt can reduce the risk of death by 45%. Lastly, if people are aware of the dangers of driving irresponsibly, they could spread the word to others who don’t understand how driving safely can save millions of lives daily.

I am adamant about driving safety because although I have not been involved in a car accident, many of my friends have been a victim of a car accident and it has affected me personally. On December 31st, 2018, two innocent, talented, and loving girls named Zeyneb and Nadia thought they were going to have a fun New Year’s Eve with their family and friends, but sadly that excitement was cut short. Zeyneb and her sister Nadia were involved in a car accident that resulted in both of their lives being cut short. Another relative was in the vehicle but suffered minor injuries; now, they must remember the horrific trauma from the accident. The car skidded off the tight road and struck a tree. The two sisters were great friends to many people and always loved to help make the world a better place for everyone. Many other injuries and deaths occurred on the same route, so it is essential to take precautions and stay safe, so we don’t lose any more beautiful lives. Accidents do happen, but not everyone is lucky enough to survive them.

To become a better driver, I would improve road safety is by spreading knowledge about drunk driving and driving safety that I’ve learned from drivers ed class. I pledge not to drive while alcohol is present in my body, call a friend for a safe ride home, and follow all safety precautions. By implementing everything I learned and following rules of the road, I can help protect myself from becoming a victim of drunk driving and reckless driving to save my family and friends.
