Reminders Keep Us Safe

Driving safely is important in a society where almost everyone travels by car, especially in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I currently live. Our transportation can go up to sixty miles an hour, and it’s made of heavy steel and glass. In Albuquerque, most people use their own personal cars to get places instead of public transportation. This means there are large numbers of drivers on the road, and each of them has different opinions on driving safely. This situation leads to accidents and deaths, with reckless drivers injuring others.

Although I have never been in a car accident myself, I know plenty of people who have, although the accident was usually not their fault. Accidents can and should be limited by the people who are on the road. Drivers ed is incredibly important for telling people about safety, but most people in America are so used to driving that they hardly give safety any thought when they’re driving, unless they have had accidents in the past. Even if someone has had education about the perils of driving, they have probably forgotten most of the safety information they were taught, especially if they took the course years or decades before. The standard drivers ed courses required for a license are not perfect. Drivers ed should continue through a lifetime. Every driver needs frequent reminders about how important it is to be safe on the road so that safety does not fade into the back of their minds. Reminders can include anything from ads to law enforcement and signs. Those concerned about driving safety can also remind their friends and family about safe driving tips.

Posting driving safety reminders on billboards by highways, promoting safety through scholarships and ads online, and reminding people to keep their cars working correctly are all steps that can be taken to remind people to be safe on the road. Personally, I can be aware of my surroundings when driving, like looking behind me when I’m pulling out of a parking lot. I can keep my own car working well in order to avoid sudden stalls or breakdowns on the road. I can drive the speed limit and remember to stay a safe distance from the other people on the road. All of these steps can help to keep me and others safe when I’m driving. When someone else is driving and I’m a passenger, I can remind the driver to be safe if they are not driving responsibly. If I know that the person I’m with is not always a safe driver, I can suggest that I drive us instead. I can’t control the other person’s actions while driving, but I can control my own. By being responsible, I can help reduce the number of deaths on the road.

Because driving in cars is so important to the functionality of the world we live in, we need to have constant reminders about safety to keep everyone safe on the road.
