A death cannot be reversed: The true importance of Drivers ed

Drivers ed is very important and crucial in preventing driving related deaths. Knowing the ways of the road allows a driver to be conscious of themselves and others while driving. Keeping other people’s safety in mind by making quick and safe decisions on the road, that can be learned through drivers ed, can ultimately reduce the number of deaths caused by driving. If a person does not know when to make a turn for example or goes the wrong way on the freeway, many deaths will be at the expense of the driver’s need for education. Drivers’ education teaches drivers how to navigate their car through traffic and real-world situations, while also providing guidance to young and brand-new drivers. Learning the ways of the road can work as a prevention method for driving related deaths among many other safety precautions.

One can limit the number of deaths related to driving by decreasing the amount of distractions they are exposed to while driving. For example, If the driver knows they cannot listen to music and drive safely simultaneously, then they should avoid driving with music playing in their car. Additionally, Bluetooth can aid in answering phone calls while the driver can continue to keep their focus on the road. Using this method, many accidents and deaths caused by texting and driving can be reduced in the process.

One experience of irresponsible driving I will never forget was with my grandfather. He has always been a rather reckless driver. One day my grandparents and I were driving in his car and we came upon some railroad tracks. A train was coming, and the railroad safety arms were beginning to descend. Instead of stopping at least 15 feet away from the railroad tracks, he decided to drive right across the railroad tracks, right before the arms went all the way down, endangering himself, myself and my grandmother. His excuse was always that he has never been in an accident before so he must be doing something right. However, I always correct him and say that he might not have gotten into an accident, but others could have gotten into one because of his actions instead.

When it comes to working on becoming a safer driver, I will learn how to maneuver around different cars and tricky situations. Since I have only been driving for a short time, I still drive cautiously in order to avoid making mistakes. To improve my driving and become a safer driver I will work on making quick decisions on the road. I can also advise my friends while they are driving on the road concerning where to stop or to slow down when they are speeding, which can benefit both parties. I will avoid being in a car accident and they will avoid receiving a speeding ticket. Given these points, drivers ed is essential to maintaining order and safety among everyone on the road because you cannot turn back the clock and reverse someone’s death.
