With Driving Comes Much Responsibility
With driving comes much responsibility. Drivers ed is the guide to becoming a safe and responsible driver. The importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving is that it provides the learner with the knowledge and skills needed to be safe on the road. Drivers ed is significant because it allows you to become aware of the many factors that have to be accounted for when driving. Not only does drivers ed teach you about safety as a driver, but also as a pedestrian. You’re not the only one on the road, and you have to be aware of the vehicles that are around you as well. Students who take drivers ed are less likely to have an accident since they have learned about traffic laws and the rules of the road. Also, they are less likely to be involved in an accident that may result in fatal injuries. Although you may be in an accident that wasn’t your fault, with drivers ed you are more likely to know how to tackle the problem if you’re ever in that situation. It can also come down to avoiding the accident entirely. For instance, say in drivers ed there was a lesson about what to do when your engine is heating up. A driver that may not have taken drivers ed may not know what to do or even check it at all. I never had the experience of being in a car accident, nor have I seen any of my friends or family members driving irresponsibly. However, I have seen others around me driving irresponsibly due to distractions. An important step to take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road is to acknowledge the possible distractions when driving and to prevent them. Distractions are characterized into four categories: visual, auditory, manual, and cognitive. One small distraction can turn your whole life around and affect everyone you care about as well. No matter how experienced you may be, you never know. Driving is a risk, so take precautions and avoid distractions. Again, drivers ed goes more into depth about the knowledge that is necessary to know when driving. The steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving is to realize how dangerous it is, be prepared with the knowledge and skills provided by drivers ed, make sure you’re in the right state to drive and to avoid distractions when doing so. When driving, you’re in control of the vehicle and your life. Your own life and the lives of whoever may be in the car with you is in your hands. Be a responsible driver for the safety of your life and others.
