Being safe while driving is very important. It is tragic that there have been more fatalities in the states due to driving each year than both the Iraq and the Afghanistan war combined. Most fatalities due to driving can be completely avoidable, and it is our duty to become safe drivers so that we can reduce the accidents. I believe if we all became more aware of the risks involved with driving we could significantly reduce the tragedies that happen on the road.

I have had a few experiences with crashes on the road, and although some of them can’t be avoided, many crashes can. I have a brother who can sometimes drive distractedly, and I know from those experiences that it is irresponsible and really dangerous. You can seriously hurt yourself and others by being irresponsible, and I don’t think anyone would want that on their conscience.

I have decided to take actions to become a safer driver myself, as well as help my friends and family to become safer on the road. I might not be able to make a big difference, but every little step toward a safer world counts. One of the ways I am going to stay safe is turn off my phone. A lot of accidents happen because of distracted driving, yet there is an easy solution to this: turn off your phone, or put it on do not disturb mode. I know this will make driving safer, so I will do this while I’m driving. I will also make sure that my friends and family don’t look at their phones while they drive.

It would also reduce fatalities if there weren’t drunk drivers on the road. One of my favourite sayings I’ve seen about drunk driving goes like this: “You’re not a Firework, don’t drive Lit!”. Although this message is supposed to be fun, it contains a great element of truth. It is of major importance to not drive drunk, for it can have great consequences. I have made the decision to never have any alcohol in my life because I know it can be bad for you. Because I have made this decision, I can help any friends be safe on the road by offering to drive.

I think the most important thing to stay safe is to just follow the rules of the road. It is good to be an informed driver so you know the risks, and can avoid the dangers involved. If we all decided to be more informed, the road would be much safer. I think it would be beneficial for everyone to take a driving course to help them gain more experience. I’ve learned that no matter how good you think you are, everyone makes mistakes, and being educated would greatly help reduce mistakes. The rules are there to help keep us safe, and as we commit to following them we will significantly reduce tragedies on the road.
