Better to Be Safe, Than Dead

Driving is a convenient privilege that comes with many responsibilities. The biggest responsibility with driving is the driver keeping himself and others safe while on the road. In the United States, an average of 34,000 people die a year from driving related accidents. It is crucial that young people understand how dangerous driving can be and how to reduce the deaths related to driving. Without the knowledge on how to prevent any deaths in driving, the death count will only rise. This is why drivers ed is important it teaches teenagers why they should drive with caution. It is also important for parents to teach their kids driver safety.

The steps that are can be taken for reducing driving deaths is to remind drivers the steps of safe driving. Safe driving includes, but is not limited to: putting away the phone while driving, staying focused on the road, checking to see if the vehicle is safe to drive, obeying traffic laws, etc. Each state should require additional driving lessons after earning a driver’s license. The additional lessons will last for three years after earning the license. The lessons would be spaced out for every six months. Each lesson would be about four hours long on Saturdays.

I have experienced reckless driving by my friends and family. The situations always includes their phone distracting them while driving above the speed limit. It eats away at me to see that they do not have the slightest regard for their life or others. It leads me to tell them to put their phone down and focus on the road.

For me to become a safer driver, I must apply the easy driver safety tips I stated in the above paragraphs. The things that will keep me safer while driving include: putting my phone on silent to avoid any distractions from me phone, obey the speed limit, stay focused on the road, make sure my car does not have problems, etc. I can help others become safer drivers is by reminding them to be careful in the car when I’m a passenger. I’d rather be a nuisance about safety to the driver, than be a corpse because of the lack of caution by the driver.
