Importance of drivers ed
Everyone knows the basic dangers of driving. I feel blessed taking drivers ed in high school. Not only learn what the road sign means, speed limits, registrations, certain laws to follow, etc is very useful to learn but taking drivers ed could save your life and others. There was once a guest speaker in my drivers ed class. Many people think that they will be fine drinking while driving late at night when no one is around but it could risk their lives. Drivers ed teaches you all the consequences of breaking the laws of driving such as ignore signs, illegally turning on their high beam, the speed limit in certain areas, etc. Taking this course will teach ways for safe driving such as the 3-second rule to help avoid an accident by maintaining distances and other distant rules for different areas like a city such as in NYC, being aware of blind spots in every type of vehicles especially trucks, understanding hydroplaning, teaching the physics on breaking (Higher speed = longer braking distance), driving or parking in a hill, always be aware such as looking 12 seconds ahead, looking out for pedestrian, different weather condition affects your driving and breaking because of the road condition due to the weather, and the importance of wearing a seat belt. Also teaches you the basic road rules such as always keep to the right when driving and pass on the left, the only time you are allowed to pass on the right is when you are in a two-lane road and the driver in front of you is turning left, and if someone is attempting to pass you on the left, you should slow down and allow them to pass safely. The steps you take in safe driving to reduce deaths include all of the social, physical, and mental skills you have. In my drivers ed class we learned the IPDE Process, stands for Identify(important information in the ongoing driving scene), Predict(when and where possible points of conflict will develop), Decide(when, where, and how to communicate, adjust speed, and/or change position to avoid conflict), and Execute(the right actions to prevent). This process of thinking will help reduce the risk of people’s lives. In my life, I have never been in an accident but there has been a time with a friend that I could’ve been. My friend was driving and we were in an exit of a parking lot and we saw that one car past but a tree was blocking a car behind the passing vehicle. Thankfully the car stopped nothing bad happened but this was caused but lack of observation and identifying. The IPDE Process always helps me be a safe driver. Always being focused and thinking of the best choice will help everyone including me be a safe driver!
