In the driver’s seat

1.
What is the importance of drivers ed in reducing the number
deaths as a result of driving?

Driver
education is important to be able to learn of all the technical
aspects of driving to minimize, if not eliminate, the number of road
accidents that may be resulted in the death of anyone.

Drivers
should be taught of the proper driving procedures, understanding road
signs and signals, and road courtesy to fellow vehicles,
flagmen/police officers, and pedestrians.

2.
What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to
driving?

All
of these aspects learned should be applied on the road with
discipline by the drivers. And, religiously follow and obey traffic
rules and regulations.

Be
mindful and vigilant to the pedestrians. Always give courtesy or
priority.

Be
attentive to the road signs. These are to keep drivers informed on
the present conditions and what is coming ahead along the road.

Use
blinkers ahead of time when turning, changing lanes, or others you
would do. There should be proper coordination with other drivers
around you. Obviously, signify your intentions to them.

Be
aware of the vehicles around you. Always use your mirrors and check
the blind spots of your vehicle and be cautious on the other
vehicle’s blind spots traveling along with you.

Always
follow the regulatory speed set on a certain road or highway. Driving
too slow or too fast can cause a road accident. Staying in the
designated lane with uniform speed together with the other vehicles
will create a smooth flow of traffic. Also, proper following distance
on the vehicle ahead of you, depending on the speed, weather and road
condition.

The
use of low beam headlights is highly recommendable during night
driving to avoid eye glaring from the opposite vehicle.

3.
Have you ever had an experience of being in car accident or have seen
your friends or family members driving irresponsibly?

I
am very grateful to God for not encountering any experience in a road
accident or involving irresponsibly driving together with my family
and my friends. But, I have seen through media of a lot of road
accidents that encourage me to become more cautious and more careful
not only as a driver but also as a pedestrian.

4.
What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as
help others become safer on the road?

This
will depend on the manner of driving or the driving habit. But it
always starts with self-discipline. Apply all the knowledge learned
and be a responsible driver.

Try
to be non-confrontational with other drivers in any road situation.
No distraction while driving, stay focused. Avoid using any gadgets
or doing anything on the road. If the need arises, find a safe place
to pull over and use blinker to warn other drivers.

Before
hitting the road, check yourself if you are fit to drive and your
vehicle is in good condition. Take enough sleep if you are about to
drive the next day especially if long driving. Wear a seatbelt and
adjust the seat and mirrors appropriate to your driving position and
comfort. Regularly check the tires and fluids before and after use.
And follow the dealer’s recommended periodic maintenance.
