How To Make The Roads Safe
How To Make The Roads Safe
Driver education classes are important to have because without them our number of car accidents and deaths would be higher than what it already is. Without drivers ed young and even some adult drivers would not have the proper training to keep themselves and others safe on the road, yes they could have a friend or family member teach them but it will only give them the bad driving habits that a professional would not. For example, like how to look over your shoulder, side and rear view mirrors before backing out of a parking spot or switching lanes on the road, the proper training on parallel and even regular parking, and the most important thing to learn is that first time experience on the road and freeway. You need somebody that is trained on how to stay calm with a first-time driver so they can explain how to do all those things listed while they are riding in the car with them, and most of the time when having a family member teach you it’s not that much of a calm situation you’re usually both in a state of panic which can cause an accident in itself. I am aware that in some cases families aren’t able to afford driving school. That’s why I believe in the future driving schools should have waivers or reduce prices for families that don’t meet a certain income.
Even though driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding are big reasons for accidents, the most common and top reason for accidents is Distracted driving. Being on your phone while driving is one of the most dangerous car hazards that can end up possibly costing you or someone else’s life. What I do to ensure that I don’t be tempted to get on my phone while driving is before I start to drive I put my phone on “Do Not Disturb”, I set the music for my bluetooth so I don’t have to keep switching songs, and finally, I put my phone inside of my armrest so I don’t even see it. These are three easy steps that can potentially save your life and someone else’s from being in a car accident.
I, fortunately, have not been in a car accident that I can remember, but I have had friends and family that have been in some accidents due to irresponsible drivers. Luckily they are ok but it could have been prevented if the other driver was paying attention, wasn’t under the influence, or whatever the reason might have been. Most accidents are preventable, it’s just up to us as drivers to follow the rules and prevent them. Whenever I am in a car with a friend I make sure seat belts are on and the driver isn’t on their phone, I even hold the phone and will make sure they don’t have a reason to be on it. I make sure by controlling the music and if it’s an important text at a red light I will read it to them out loud and text back for them. Do not be scared to speak up when it’s regarding your safety. If you feel uncomfortable then say something if they choose not to drive safely with you in the car then politely ask them to drop you back off or have somebody pick you up from the location you are at, your safety and life comes first.
Steps that we all can take to become a better and safer driver is making sure we are doing the speed limit, make sure everybody in the car has a seat belt on, do not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, keep phones on Do Not Disturb and put away to where you can’t see it, if you do not listen to the radio then have your music selected before you start driving, and lastly if you are not the driver and the driver is doing something wrong speak up doing that can potentially save your lives and someone else’s. One glance off the road is all it takes for something to happen and these are just some steps that can keep us all safe on the road but I’m sure there is a lot more we all could be doing. I believe if Car insurance agencies would reward good safe drivers by lowering payments that would also be a reason for people to take driving safely more seriously.
