Safe Driving Practices

Driver education is a requirement for new/unlicensed drivers who hope to one day be able to get on the road. Not only does driver education courses cover the basic practical aspects of driving, but there is also an emphasis on safety and responsible driving. Every time you enter a vehicle as a driver, you are putting your life at the hands of the driver as well as that of your passengers and those who share the road with you. If even one of your fellow drivers lacked the proper education and/or willingness to adhere to safety protocols while on the road, risk is ever present.

Moreover, considering that a substantial number of major accidents resulting in deaths are caused by the misuse and/or abuse of alcohol and drugs, one can reasonably deduct that too many drivers engage in irresponsible driving practices. Those drivers that engage in this avoidable behavior display a reckless disregard for themselves as well as the people around them.

In an ongoing effort to combat these trends and/or mitigate the occurrences, many laws have been put in place. Unfortunately, however, some simply do not regard the law with the care and attention that is warranted. Therefore, I submit that the solution must come from drivers themselves as there needs to be a push to eliminate the combination of driving and alcohol or drugs and/or excessive speed or unsafe driving practices.

As unfortunate as it is, many people gain a new sense of perspective only after witnessing or being involved in a car crash. It is often only then that they realize the scale of the responsibility that has been placed upon them and how easily they could lose their life over a single careless mistake. I, myself, have been fortunate enough to never have been involved in a crash, but I have witnessed one unfold mere feet before me, and it gave me a new appreciation for the importance of safe driving practices. As a new driver myself, one of the things that I have consciously decided to work on to keep roads safe is to focus on always maintaining full attention to the road and the surroundings while driving. Moreover, I will certainly do my part to encourage those in my sphere of influence to refrain from driving under the influence and/or engaging in unsafe driving practices.
