Drive Safely

Road traffic injuries are currently estimated to be the 8th leading cause of death across all age groups around the world, and are predicted to become the seventh leading cause of death by 2030. Being one of the major causes of deaths of teenagers and adults, one should shed light on driving safety. We should determine what can be done in order to decrease loses due to driving irresponsibly.

First, we should consider the driver education and its importance in reducing the number of deaths due to driving. Driver education supplements the information in manuals produced by the government to prepare students for tests of driving license. Driver education helps you learn the regulations and laws of driving. It provides you with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for vehicle safety both as a driver and as a pedestrian. In many countries, it is required by law before you are issued a driver’s license. A study showed that drivers who don’t get driver education are 75 percent more likely to get a traffic ticket and 24 percent more likely to be involved in a fatal or injury crash and 16 percent more likely to have a crash.

To reduce the number of deaths related to driving, several steps can be taken. For example, we should lead awareness campaigns and distribute flyers that explains the importance of safe driving for both the driver and the walker. The audience shall be of different age categories. It must occur in all states to reach the highest number of people., The government has responsibilities too. Keep roads safe. This can be done by asphalting all roads so that the wheels don’t slide due to the absence of friction. Keep roads lighted day and night, and in all seasons. This avoid accidents that happen as a result of vague vision. Also, draw lines in florescent colors so that passengers can see if there are any dangerous zones. Assure that traffic lights are always on and working. Assign policemen on crossroads if in need. Additionally, authorities should set strict rules and regulations, and settle high prices for different driving tickets.

In addition to that, to affirm the significance of driving safe, one should place himself/herself in the shoe of people on roads. Definitely, we all have passed on crossroads, roads, and highways. So we all know the consequences of irresponsible driving, or hazardous and dangerous driving. I experienced that myself. Several years ago, my parents and I were on our way to our house in the village. The road that links the city where we reside to our hometown is bumpy and rugged. Dumper trucks and pickup trucks pass by all the time, as the highway is an international way whereby trading occurs between my country and the neighboring countries. Suddenly our car got hit from the back side. We were hit by a car. The car itself was hit it by a truck. The car behind got blasted out. Our car got crumbled from the back side. The man in the car behind us died. The truck’s driver was speeding neglecting the nature of the road and the weight of the truck he was controlling. Thanks God the three of us were wearing our seatbelts, so we stayed alive with very insignificant injuries.

Furthermore, one should be a safe driver himself. When you begin driving, get as much supervised practice driving as possible, with parents or older people. Develop the right attitude about driving. Wear your safety belt always, whether you are the driver or the passenger. Assure you are not under alcohol while driving. Driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana or other drugs can cost you your license, or your life. Limit your passengers. The risk of a fatal crash increases with every additional passenger. Restrict night driving, until you master driving. The possibility of a fatal crash is three times higher at night. Keep slow if you are a starter. Gradually, move to more difficult driving situations, like highway driving, merging and driving in cities. Train for poor weather conditions. Use cell phones only for emergencies. Drive a safe vehicle.

Deaths due to driving, can be prevented. Multiple sectors need to unite their efforts in order to succeed. Government, transport, police, health, and education sectors are required to take action to solve this issue in a holistic manner. Also, it’s the driver and the pedestrian role to be safe all the time and to follow and respect driving rules.
