Driving Dangers and Saving Strangers
The importance of driving education is so that everyone may have the freedom and safe choice to get to their destination as safely as possible. Sadly this doesn’t always happen but that’s why there are so many laws and rules about driving so that you can be safe and others around you can be safe. In order to reduce the number of deaths on the road you have to be alert and attentive to what’s going on around you.
The first thing my mother told me when I started driving lessons was “It’s not you, it’s the people around you, they’re the ones you have to watch out for. You all have to be safe. That’s the goal.” And she’s right. That means as a young woman I have to be responsible and control my decision on the road.
Some steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths. Step number one, make sure that you know where your blind spots are and that you know and understand the rules and regulations of the area that you’re driving in. Step number two, pay attention to the road. It is so easy to get distracted or to want to multitask when you know that you shouldn’t. The final step is step three, take your time getting to your destination. It’s so easy to speed and rush recklessly to get somewhere but I promise you it’s in your best interest to take your time and be safe.
I have experienced being in a car accident several times sadly. I do remember one particular time that really scared me. I was 5 or 6 years old and my mom was driving us home. This guy in a truck saw us and he still sped up and hit us anyways. Our car spun off to the side and didn’t stop to see if we were okay and he knew I was in the car because he made eye contact with us before driving off in panic. So we sat there long enough for my mom to calm down and for her anxiety to drop. Thankfully someone had called the police. He saw me sitting in the backseat in my carseat and I was scared of course but I wasn’t crying. I just wanted to know if we were able to get to our destination safely.
The police officer ended up giving me a teddy bear. Even though it isn’t relevant to the story, I do still have ‘Teddy’ today, and yes I named the bear. The point of that story was even though I was in an accident I just wanted to know if my mom and I were clear to go home safely. All we cared about was getting to our destination. We got lucky the car was messed up but we were safe and unharmed.
Here are some things that we can do to make the road a safer place. If you know that you have something to do that can wait. Don’t try and attempt it while you’re driving, wait until you get to your destination before doing whatever that task may be. Another great way to keep roads safe is by not texting and driving. At All. Not at stop lights and especially npt while the vehicle is in motion. I know that for some people that’s easier said than done but if you created a habit then you can also break a habit.
This is a very serious but important way to keep roads safe. If you are under the influence or buzzed, tipsy whatever term you may want to call it. Please don’t try to drive. Don’t even attempt it, just call a taxi, Uber, a Lyft, or if you don’t want to do that, call a friend. Have the bartender call a friend. Better safe than sorry. There are several different reasons why this will save not only your life but others. Here’s a few. If the cops pull you over and smell alcohol on you make you do the breathalyzer test. If it comes back showing that you were drinking which 9 times outta 10 it will. You’re in so much trouble, that’s a ticket, a fine and most likely you might have to appear in court.
You hurt more than just yourself if you choose to drink and drive and the sad part is that was the better option. If you drink and drive and the cops don’t catch you. You can hurt yourself, hurt someone’s family, spouse or kids all because you’re being reckless. So a great way to prevent all of that and to save yourself from legal trouble and possible vehicular manslaughter is to just not drink and drive. Ever.
In Conclusion, driving can be fun and a wonderful experience. As long as you do it safely these steps and tips are a good way to make sure that you stay safe and that others around you stay safe. So everyone please be safe out there.
