Making the Roads a Better Place
‘ Transportation is an essential aspect of our society, and cars are the most commonly used form of transportation. Everyday, millions of people use cars to get them from point A to point B. Cars are very advanced and complicated machines that weigh a ton. Cars also travel an average of 60 miles per hour. The physics of this situation lets one know just how dangerous cars can become. Just as much as cars are an effective form of transportation, they are also a weapon. All drivers must go through the right training so they can safely operate the vehicle.
It’s important that every driver goes through the best training before they receive their license and are allowed to hit the roads. Like many activities in life, driving has a lot of mental aspects to it. There are too many people on the roads today that drive angry and aggressive. This is usually fueled by poor emotions caused by things external to driving. This leads many people to drive recklessly, which leads to them having a complete disregard for the lives of other drivers and their own. Driver Education needs to do a better job of drilling into young drivers’ heads that you should not drive aggressively just because you are mad. It’s a tough world out there, and everyone in it is fighting their own battle and has their problems. Young drivers need to know that when they enter their car, their life needs to be put on pause. Driving needs to become the commercial brakes of your life where you forget all your problems and worries that are going on outside the car. You should be solely focused on operating your vehicle in the safest way possible, so you don’t lose the chance to fix and address those problems. If everyone who is learning to drive can enter the car with that attitude and that state of mind, the roads will become much safer. It’s also just as important to be knowledgeable. Many people just understand that the key turns the car on, and the gas pedal makes the car go. That is a big problem because there are a lot of different components to a car. It would greatly help new drivers to learn more about cars and what makes them work. This will not only help drivers be able to identify possible problems with their vehicle, but it should also give drivers a deeper appreciation and respect for the vehicle. People tend to become more emotionally invested in something whenever they truly understand it. When people fully learn how their car works, they will grow more attached to the car and care for its safety more. Making sure that drivers have good knowledge and a good attitude towards driving will help greatly reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving.
I have been very blessed to not have been in a car accident. I have witnessed a car accident that looked very dangerous. The accident was due to two inpatient drivers who both ran through a stoplight irresponsibly. One car was making a left turn across a four-way stoplight, while another car coming from the opposite side was going straight. Both drivers were speeding through the intersection when the light was just changing from yellow to red, and neither decided to stop. The collision caused one car to spin to the center of the intersection and the other to spin out to the left. Both vehicles look totaled but thankfully, nobody lost their lives. This was especially irresponsible by the opposite driver as he had his girlfriend in the car with him. His reckless driving put his girlfriend’s life in danger.
The best steps I can take to become a better and safer driver is to make sure I enter the car in the right mindset and eliminate all distractions. I have a shorter attention span, and I become distracted easily. Whenever I am driving, I always have to keep myself in check and make sure I am always focused on the road and my surroundings. It’s just as important to drive safe, as it is to think about driving safely. We need to train the next generation of drivers to drive with the same positive and safe mindset every time they sit behind the wheel. When we all prepare to drive like this, the roads will become a much safer place.
