The importance of drivers education
Ever since I was young I thought driving would be easy. I played many driving games when I was growing up and always thought it would be exactly like that. I was thrilled when I passed my permit test and realized that I was one step closer to getting my driver’s license. The next step was to practice and receive driving lessons from an instructor. I was then informed if I waited until I was 18 I did not have to spend 6-hours with an instructor. I was originally disappointed when I heard the news. I realized that I did not have to spend a large sum of money and hours if I just waited a year, but through the long journey of getting my drivers license, I was grateful that I took the driver’s ed course and behind the wheel lessons no matter how much money I spent.
Every year thousands of people get injured or die due to driving-related accidents. With proper Driving education, behind-the-wheel lessons, and little habits that we create when we are behind the wheel can help reduce this number slowly.
Drivers education is a very important class that all drivers need to take. It teaches you the fundamental laws of the road and even teaches you how to handle different situations such as how to drive if it rains or if it snows, depending on where you live. The class may be tedious and repetitive but the repetitiveness engraves the knowledge into your memory. No matter how small or big the information is, it can help you drive safely on the road. These pieces of information can help you navigate what seems like the petrifying busy road with confidence.
Using this information you take a test to gain a permit if you pass without getting a certain amount of questions wrong. After you get your permit you need to take a six-hour behind-the-wheel driving lesson that is split into multiple lessons with an instructor.
The behind-the-wheel lesson is crucial to help develop safe driving habits. When I was doing my lessons I used to think that I could have saved money and time if I just waited until I was 18 so I could skip the lessons and just drive with my parents but as I look back to the lessons I was grateful that I listened to my parents and took the lessons before I started driving with my parents. The instructor comes with his car that is surrounded by “student driver” stickers and when I saw this I was embarrassed but then you start to realize that the sticker alerts other drivers on the road that you are new and helps them be alert when driving with you on the road. The class teaches you the fundamentals of driving such as how much to turn your wheel depending on the turn, how to reverse, how to check your mirrors, how to parallel park etc. With these tips and the advice from my parents, I slowly improved my driving skills and became more confident when driving on the road. These classes with a professional instructor can help people make important decisions that can help reduce accidents that happen on the road. There have been many times where I have looked back on my classes to help me when I am driving such as when to make a turn or when to slow down or when to speed up. Now there are instances where you have to make a decision in an instance but if you look back at your decisions they all lead back to the basic skill that you learned during those six hours.
Once you get your driver’s license there are many small habits that you can do that can help you be safe on the road. There are many habits that we can create such as not using your phone and driving, wearing your seatbelt, not driving while feeling sleepy or tired, etc that if we do can help keep you and other people safe on the road.
I remember when I first drove by myself when I got my license. My legs were shaking and I would always second guess myself and would always think that I am making the wrong decision but in fact, I would always make the right decision because of all the training and knowledge I gained over the year of training I had whether it be because of something that I read because of the online course or the behind-the-wheel training. This is why I think that driver’s education is important because it equips you with knowledge and skills that will help you become a safe driver.
