Driving Safety
One single second. This is how long it takes for someone to die from a car crash. In a single moment, any driver could have their life taken from them in a car accident. Because of this hazardous possibility in the world of driving, it is crucial to educate drivers of all ages about the rules, regulations, and safety precautions within the car. Driver education serves as a preventative measure to inform and equip drivers in order to ensure that fewer accidents and deaths occur. If driver education did not occur, the death rates from driving would rise significantly and the number of inexperienced drivers would increase as well. As a whole, driver education involves all areas of operating the vehicle and potential driving scenarios for the sake of saving as many human lives as possible. Specifically, there are clear steps that can be taken to decrease the number of deaths related to driving. The first step in the process would be to increase the promotion regarding the dangers of driving. In particular, it would be wise to highlight through social media and the internet the effect that driving deaths have had on families and other aspects of life. This step would not be a fear tactic in any way, but rather serve as a method to bring awareness of the hardships that can come when individuals do not take the responsibility of driving seriously and as a result negatively impact the lives of other people. By appealing to the emotions of the American people and by reminding them to think of their own families while driving, the rate of driving deaths in America could decrease in number. Along with this, another beneficial step would be to implement a way to track unsafe driving patterns displayed by drivers. This could be achieved through increasing the amount of surveillance on the roads or adding motion monitors into cars to detect if a driver demonstrates any dangerous driving habits that need to be reported. Furthermore, this motion pattern could be investigated to see if the driver has a pattern of staying distracted on the road and if this is the case then the driver could be suspended in order to make the road a safer space.
In my personal experience, I have not been in a car accident, but I have been in the car with friends and family who drove irresponsibly. My friend was on the phone while driving and she almost crashed the car, however, I was able to remind her of the main priority at hand which was driving the vehicle. Ultimately, this occurrence is just a another example of why driving education should be promoted more on social media platforms and the importance of detecting dangerous driving habits before danger is caused. To be a better and safer driver, there are countless steps that I can take on a daily basis. Before getting in the car, I can adjust all of my controls before hand so that I am able to focus on the road while driving. In addition, I can make sure that my phone is turned off to prevent any potential distractions that could interfer with my attention. Essentially, anything that could take my focus away from driving needs to be addressed before driving the vehicle to protect myself and others who are on the road. To help friends and family become safers drivers on the road, I could text or take a phone call for them so that they can continue to focus on operating the vehicle. For those who are not in my family, I can advocate for safe driving practices through my social media online to promote safer drivers within my area. Also, I could report individuals who are driving distracted so that hopefully in the future they can learn from their mistakes and become safer drivers on the road. In the end, in order to truly change the deaths and dangers that come from driving accidents, everyone needs to not only understand what safe driving looks like, but also understand why safe driving is important in the first place. It is essential to remind people that driving safe is not an option, it is a requirement. It is necessary for everyone because it ensures that another preventable death does not occur from irresponsible or inexperienced driving behaviors. Every single human life matters and no one deserves to die from an avoidable cause which is why I choose to encourage the importance of driving a vehicle with safe practices.
