In the blink of an eye

Drivers’ education and safety while driving is essential in our society today. The driving decisions we make today can make or take our lives within the blink of an eye. We in the world today can save millions of lives if we all drive safely on the road. However, the sad reality is that there can and will be irresponsible drivers out there, which is why we need to educate as many people as possible on drivers’ education and safety while driving. Driver safety is a crucial skill that all should learn and take seriously because it could mean life or death.

I have seen that driver education is needed to learn how to be a responsible driver. Being a responsible driver is the incentive for learning driver education; without knowing how to be a responsible driver, your chances of having an accident increase. Some tips on being a responsible driver would be to maintain your vehicle, avoid distractions while driving, and always wear your seat belt. Driving responsibility is needed to reduce the amount of driving deaths around the globe. Part of being a responsible driver is to obey traffic laws. Traffic laws are mentioned a lot when learning how to be an accountable driver. Learning traffic laws is very important—rules such as driving below the speed limit and pedestrians having the right way. Driver education is needed to keep death rates in the U.S. and globally as low as possible.

Furthermore, A topic that is talked about most in our society is the use of cell phones. Cell phone usage has increased to where even our young kids are growing up with tablets or phones, and technology has taken over to where now, we have to put more stress on the “No text No call while driving” motto. One way to solve the texting and driving problem is to make the laws stricter. Another significant influence is driving under the influence of a substance such as alcohol (Ex: wine, beer), Benzodiazepines (Ex: Xanex, Valium, and Ativan), and narcotics (Ex: marijuana, Percocet, and fentanyl) are just some of the few other drugs that are bad for our people to consume let alone drive after drinking. According to DrugAbuse.gov, Marijuana is second to alcohol in motor vehicle accidents.

Nevertheless, Accidents continue to happen and cut off so many people’s lives due to irresponsible driving. One day I was driving behind my brother after a family event, and we heard that our mother was being rushed to the hospital, and my brother Jordan and I left the event in a hurry. Jordan was drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana at the family event and decided to drive in his vehicle and told me to follow him in my car. I questioned this, but he stated, “I will okay, don’t worry about me” As we were driving down the road, I noticed at the end there was a deep and winding curve. He continued to speed up and go straight, and at the last second, he turned his vehicle, and his back tire spun, causing him to slide across the road, and that’s when his car flipped and rolled over three times and landed right by a gas pipeline. At that moment, all I could think of was, “Jesus is he okay! And that whenever I saw my brother crawling out of the vehicle looking with a distraught stare with no physical injuries noted. I immediately called 911 and ran to hug and make sure my brother was okay at this time with him in my arms; all I could think about was how lucky he was to be alive and how lucky I am to still have my brother. I had never realized how easy it is for someone to be killed while driving under the influence. Still, to this day, I think about how traumatizing it was to see my brother come so close to losing his life. The thought of me losing my brother that day still brings tears to my eyes. From that day forward, I made myself a promise never to let anyone around me get behind the wheel of a vehicle of any kind so that no lives would ever be taken by irresponsible driving.

Still, I think about my brother’s accident and what steps we can take or what plans I can come up with to help others be safer drivers. I think if the U.S. would come up with a law for people who have a history of accidents caused by them and have them be rehabilitated. Another solution would be to have the legal drinking age rise to 23 years of age in all states of the U.S. This will cause fewer teens to get ahold of alcohol and lower the number of driving accidents. Lastly, we need stricter Identification. Most gas stations will let you get alcohol and other drugs as long as you look over 18, Which is why so many gas station workers get tricked thinking a teenager is an adult. They don’t check their drivers’ licenses or other forms of Identification.

Finally, drivers’ education is vital because we need safer drivers out there on the road. With safer drivers, we can finally make safer roads for everyone. Be a safe driver and stay safe.
